4 Pennies a Month - 1 Penny per Week

I began this new venture, Sam's Taste of Chaos, four weeks ago.  In one short month, I have gone from an audience of one (the beautiful Dawn) to well over a thousand.  My wife, the aforementioned Dawn (did I mention that she is beautiful?) is no longer forced to hear me rant and rave or launch into a long soliloquy with her as my captive (often forcibly so) audience.  She is glad that I have found another outlet that allows me to periodically drain my thoughts slowly, rather than to suddenly pour them out on her, as if she's part of some strange Chinese water torture.

With her encouragement and my ability to prattle off endlessly no matter the topic, Sam's Taste of Chaos has become a rip-roaring success.  In fact, so successful has our first month been, that I soon expect to receive our first bit of income for the website.  I'm not sure how the estimated and actual earnings will play out, but I expect a check in the amount of $0.04 to arrive early next week.  You read that right - four pennies for the month of February.  Heck, that's like a penny per week.  If this keeps up....well just add that up and you begin to see how good the outlook is.  To quote the poet, Timbuktu - "The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades".

As the past four weeks has gone by, I've tried to see how the weekly news cycle has affected my posts.  I believe that I have what will be a rough framework now for each week.  Putting together at least a draft schedule will allow me to stay more focused (or simply make me a slave to yet another calendar).  For those who check in regularly, this is what I have so far.

  • Monday - Ruminations from the Void:  I'll post my collection of thoughts and links from the previous week's events along with whatever else enters my head.
  • Tuesday - Saturday - Topical posts:  My take on whatever current topics are making news.
  • Thursday - Casual Fridays:  Here I will attempt to offer up something on the lighter side.  This will post on Thursday just to be different (if that bothers you, don't read it until Friday).
  • Sunday - The Sentimental Side:  Each Sunday, I will offer up something personal, which will often be sappy (crying is optional).
I can't thank each of you for accidentally clicking the link to my page and then deciding to read once it was already loaded in your browser.  I can't - I don't have everyone's address yet.  But when I do, I will come and thank each of you personally, for taking the time to read my words and allowing me to share my thoughts with you.

As reward for your patronage and time, I would like to give my first check to one of my readers.  Everyone who already has or chooses to sign up to follow my blog, along with anyone and everyone who comments on any of my posts during the next 10 days will be entered into a drawing for my $0.04 check.  A penny or two may not seem like much, but add them together and we're talking real money.  Deadline for entry is 11:59.59 CST Saturday, March 12th.

I would quickly like to make one point.  On my page you will notice the Amazon window on your right.  Those are items that I choose to place for display.  If you see anything interesting there or in any other ads on my page, don't hesitate to click on them.  When you choose a link on my page if that leads to a purchase, I receive a referral payment.  You get a great deal and I am paid as well.  That's a win-win.

Thanks again for your time.  If you have any concerns, thoughts or helpful insights that are better said off-line, please email me at samschaos@att.net. Never hesitate to comment on any of my posts (especially now when four pennies are on the line).  I will try to comment back as much as possible.  Don't be afraid to disagree with me.  When we disagree, that's fine.  When we agree, that's great.  And when I happen to have swayed your opinion, then I will know it's time - time for Pinky to ask me what I want to do tonight.  "The same thing we do every night, Pinky - try to take over the world."

God Bless,
Sam Ritter

  1. I would be very surprised if they actually cut a check for four cents. They most likely will hold your check until you reach the princely sum of $5.

  2. I'm sure they won't. Although I once received a $0.25 check from ATlT for a lost quarter in a payphone. Either way, I'm happy to offer my first month earnings to my readers. Good luck.
